The Flight School

The FAA requirements for a Instrument Rating are:

  • Hold at least a Private Pilot License
  • Pass the FAA Instrument Rating Knowledge Test
  • Have logged fifty hours of cross country flight time as pilot in command, of which 10 hours must have been in an airplane; and
  • Have logged forty hours of actual or simulated instrument time in the areas of operation required for instrument of which-
    • 15 hours must have been received from an Instrument Flight Instructor, and the instrument time includes:
      • 3 hours of instrument flight training within 2 calendar months before the date of the practical test; and
      • Instrument flight training on cross country flight procedures
  • Pass the FAA practical test

All costs are approximations and not guaranteed. As some of our aircraft feature wet rates and others feature dry rates, course costs can vary widely. Although the FAA minimums may be met, it may take some students extra hours to fully understand some concepts. Because of that our programs incorporate a 10 hour buffer in both the aircraft rental and the flight instruction.
